The lesson “Peer Mediation” teaches children the importance of mediation and negotiation skills, and how to serve as the mediator when others are experiencing conflict. Children come to understand that negotiation achieves mutually satisfactory resolutions to conflict by addressing the needs of all concerned. Through the lesson, the children are able to demonstrate mediating an argument by using a Talking Stick. The lesson includes guided instructions for the teacher, including preparation, a script, and suggested activities to facilitate further learning in a fun and interactive manner. This lesson is designed for children between 6-8 years, and is the 40th lesson in the 1st Year Core Curriculum Set and part of the “Leadership Preparation” unit.
